An SPF (Sender Policy Framework) is an email authentication protocol that verifies the origin of email messages. The verification is done by checking whether the IP address of the sending email server belongs to that of the sender and is therefore reliable.
Which steps do I follow to set up an SPF?
To set up an SPF, it is important that the email servers that are allowed to send emails on behalf of you(r domain) are included. In this case, Spotler. Your domain administrator can configure in the DNS settings of your domain name. You will find your domain name behind the @ in the reply address that you have set up in your Spotler account. The SPF record is added by your domain administrator. If there is already an SPF record and Spotler is not included there, it is even more important to take action, because otherwise it is not possible to send the mailing with Spotler. Publishing an SPF can be done in 3 steps:
- Check the current SPF status
- Adjust the SPF record (your domain administrator will do this)
- Your contact person at Spotler checks the new SPF status
1. Check the current SPF status
Your contact person at Spotler can check the current status of your SPF record. The following statuses are possible:
- Good:The SPF record of your reply-to address authorizes Spotler to send emails.
- Sufficient:SPF status of the reply-to address does not mention Spotler, but Spotler is not forbidden from sending emails.
- None:No SPF or SenderID record has been found. This is not a issue, although the delivery could be improved if an SPF record is created.
- Issue:The SPF record prohibits Spotler from sending emails or contains a technical error.
If the status is "Good", no action is needed.
2. Adjusting of the SPF record by your domain administrator
Your domain administrator can adjust the SPF record for you. All you have to do is forward them the information below.

The SPF record should look like this: “v=spf1 include:spf.spotler.email ip4:[IP or IP range of your own email servers] -all"; "v=spf1" indicates that the TXT record is an SPF record "-all" indicates that everything except the included addresses must be denied
It is recommended to use the same value in both the TXT and the SPF record. The following tools allow you to check whether your SPF record is set up correctly:
Please note: including the IP range of Spotler in your SPF record is not required. The words _spf.spotler.email will suffice and are recommended. This code will prompt Spotler's email servers to be added.
3. Check the new SPF status
Your domain administrator has indicated that the SPF record has been modified. Your Spotler contact person can now verify whether the status has been changed to "Good" in your Spotler account.
Please note: it can take about 24 to 48 hours before an SPF record is actually active everywhere (worldwide).
